Suicidal thoughts can occur to anyone at any point in their life. They are more common than you may realise. You may be feeling overwhelming pain, hopeless, worthless, isolated, or like there is no way out. While it is OK to have suicidal feelings, it is important to reach out and let someone know how you’re feeling. Lifeline is here for you. We understand what it’s like to have thoughts about suicide. We’re here to listen and help you.
Sometimes life’s problems can seem overwhelming and unbearable. Getting through these problems might seem impossible or daunting. This is not unusual. So recognising this and asking for help is an important first step. We're here to listen, make a connection and be there for you. We want to sit with you in your time of need and help you through it.
When you dial 13 11 14, text us or reach out via chat you will be answered by the first available Crisis Supporter. Our trained Crisis Supporters are there to listen and provide you with the support you need. If you are placed in a queue, please hold – we will answer.
Once connected, you can talk, text or type about what’s on your mind – no matter how overwhelming. Lifeline’s Crisis Supporters are trained to listen deeply to what is happening for you, without passing judgment. They will support you to better understand your own feelings and reactions. Depending on your needs, they will work with you to support your safety. The Crisis Supporter will also work with you to help you to identify any next steps you might decide to take once the interaction is over.
